Google Analytics Vs Web Trends

Hello Friends, Today i came up with a new article to discuss on the basic differences between   Google Analytics (GA) and WebTrends (WT)

I have collected this information from various sources.Thanks to Google Amma for helping me in searching for groups , blogs and forums.

Before we begin with diffrences between GA and WT i would like to share a basic definations of Google Analytics and WebTrends.

Google Analytics (a.k.a GA) : GA is a tag based web analytical tool from Google , which is provided to analyze consumer behavior on a website, which in turn helps moderator/Analyst to get reports on site activities like page views, visits, average time one site, bounce rate etc.

WebTrends (a.k.a WT) : WT is a Tag and Log file based web analytical tool from WebTrends Inc , which comes in two versions Webtrends OnDemand and Self Hosted. Though WT also performs same business as GA, but WT provides you every report in granular level.

webtrends Ok, Lets come to basic understanding of features between WebTrends and Google Analytics.

  3. Integrated into AdWords account.
  4. Free to use
  5. Hosted by Google (Own server resourse is not required)
  1. Sophisticated interface
  2. Overkill setup options
  3. Very very very detailed reports
  4. · Support is very knowledgeable
  5. Scheduled exports
  6. Support both Log and Tag base Tracking (This is necessary to gather technical reporting as client and server errors, average time to serve pages, bandwidth, etc...)
  7. Get Quick Reports(Instant Reports)
Cons
  1. Long wait to get enrolled
  2. Hard(er) to get support
  3. Some missing features (eg: email campaign tracking)
  4. Number of profiles limited to 5
  5. only available with tag-based technologies
  6. Will updates reports Once in a day.
  1. Kind of pricey
  2. Setup and maintenance requires a professional
  3. Not compatible with every browser (Java issues)
  4. Extremely resource intensive

Thanks for referring to my blog post on GA vs Webtrends. I'd like to point out a few things in your cons for GA, however:
1. Not sure what you mean by 'long wait to get enrolled'. You don't have to enroll. You sign up and instantly have access to the dashboard.
2. There are tons of tutorials, help topics, videos, blogs and Google Analytics Certified consultants to get help from.
3. You can track email campaigns with the URL link tag.
4. You can have up to 50 profiles on an account.
6. Actually, they've gotten better about updating reporting data. Sometimes you can get it within a couple hours.
